Increased Sustainability On-Farm through Improved Reproduction Efficiency

Increasing reproductive efficiency

Increased reproductive efficiency remains one of the key management tools which farmers can use to reduce on-farm emissions and wastage. Increasing pregnancy rates, and the use of high genetic value semen, allows for adequate replacement heifers to be bred from a smaller herd thereby reducing environmental impact. Oestrus synchrony and fixed-time insemination protocols have demonstrated their usefulness in improving reproductive efficiency in dairy herds, and these protocols are constantly being improved through ongoing research.

Conventional treatments often require multiple handling and administration of products at inconvenient times, which can disrupt farm management practices and negatively impact fertility outcomes if not carried out precisely.

Welfare Concepts are working towards novel oestrus synchrony products which, through their mode of action and convenience, will result in increased protocol compliance thereby leading to improved fertility outcomes and reproductive efficiency from these programmes.
